What is Microskin™ technology?

It all started in Australia…

Microskin’s journey began in Australia in 2007. After hearing a story about a boy who had a rare skin pigment condition which meant he couldn’t go outside, Linda Lowndes, a make-up artist, decided to help. She teamed up with retired chemist, Les Pascoe, who had spent years developing specialist films born out of chemistry science. Together they combined Linda’s aesthetic expertise with Les’s chemical engineering background to create a revolutionary skin technology known as Microskin™.

What is Microskin™?

Les and Linda’s hard work and combined knowledge resulted in the creation of a simulated second skin. Using the latest technology in skin science, Microskin™ is a micro thin film which sits on the top of your skin. Unlike make-up, the technology is able to remain on the skin for up to three days thanks to its unique formula which binds to the skin.

Flexible as well as durable

Creating a long-lasting thin film which sits on the skin for up to three days is no mean feat, however the skin needs to be able to breathe too. That’s where Microskin’s™ revolutionary technology steps in, with microscopic vents in the Microskin™ film allowing oxygen to pass through so that skin can continue to breathe and perspire.

Smudge-proof and waterproof

Microskin’s delicate balance of ethanol and natural oil-based substances allows it to bind to the epidermis (the outer layer of skin). This unique binding action leaves behind a water-resistant film on the skin's surface that looks and feels just like skin. It’s also smudge-proof too, meaning that you don’t have to worry about it rubbing off.

Safety first

Microskin™ were a finalist in the Safety in Beauty Diamond awards 2019. To date there have been no reactions recorded to the Microskin™ formula and all the ingredients used are proven safe to pharmaceutical standards.

How can the technology help?

The simulated second skin technology paves the way for helping with a range of skin conditions, including vitiligo, birthmarks, burns and keloid scarring by using the underlying Microskin™ technology as a basis. The result is a long-lasting, waterproof and flexible formula driven by years of determination to produce something that looks, feels and acts like a second skin. Backed by science, Microskin™ is set to continue to revolutionise the skincare field, with its technology the driving force behind it.

In the future, the technology used in Microskin™ has the potential to transform skin-care and protection, but in the here and now, it is already transforming the lives of people with scars and skin conditions. Words can’t really do it justice, you have to see the before and after results to understand how transformative it is.
